Helping Others

Today I spent the day in Leawood with my mother and sister shopping. As we were walking out of a store, I saw a poster of a little girl holding a bowl. I realized that while I was spending money on items I probably didn't need, someone was worrying about their next meal. Sometimes we get so caught up in superficial and material items, that we forget about what is important. People everywhere fight battles. That fight may involve finding food, battling cancer, or going to war, but that's not what matters. You see, it doesn't matter what our struggle may be, it just matters that we stick together and help our neighbors. As I stood and looked at that poster, it hit me that I shouldn't worry about my reflection, or what kind of shoes I wear. What matters is that I have shoes to wear when others do not. One of my favorite quotes is, "Because we have the ability, we have the responsibility." This shows that as an able and fortunate person, we must help those and dedicate ourselves to serving others. Not everyone is meant to work as a missionary, or donate almost everything they have. A kind word may be your way of helping others. Even the smallest gesture, can better someones life. If everyone does their part to bring more joy into the world, we CAN change the world. And we WILL.

As a part of my agricultural education, I am very involved in FFA, which is a student organization with around 649,000 members. To be involved in FFA, you must have an SAE, or supervised agricultural experience. For example, my sister is a beekeeper and sells honey for her SAE. I have a few different projects, but my favorite SAE is raising Jack Russell Terrier puppies. Recently, on May 5th, very early in the morning, my dog gave birth to five puppies. Since then, they have opened their eyes, grown, and of course played.

As a high school student, feeding the hungry is something I have become very passionate about. I recently was a part of the Missouri Youth Institute, where I met with other students and global leaders to discuss hunger related topics. One of the questions that popped up was, "How can I help?" We often find ourselves in situations where we want to become involved, but we don't know how. I'm starting this fundraiser in the hopes of spreading the word about hunger, while raising money in the process. There are 795 million people who experience hunger in the world. One of my favorite quotes by St. Teresa of Calcutta is, "If you can't feed one hundred people, then feed just one." By purchasing a shirt you are helping to keep people full and fed. T-shirts Feeding the World

Hi, friends! I recently returned from Washington Leadership Conference, which is a five day long FFA conference that focuses on service. As many of you know, earlier this summer I launched a t-shirt campaign with profits benefiting Feeding America. Upon returning from D.C. I have decided to re-launch the service campaign. While in our nation's capital, that fire for helping other was reignited. The FFA motto: Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live,  Living to Serve As FFA members, American citizens, and as people, it is our moral obligation to dedicate our lives to service.
